Tuina Chinese Medical Massage

What is Tuina?

Tuina Medical Massage could be considered as “acupuncture without needles”.

It is a therapeutic system therapy that has been used for over 3500 years in China as an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

If you are scared of acupuncture needles but would like similar treatment benefits to acupuncture then Tuina is for you.

How does it work?

The purpose is to get the energy flowing in the meridians and the muscles by different range of motions, manipulations and acupressure point’s stimulation. Moderate or firmer techniques can be used to re-balance the body’s energy so that it starts it’s healing process. The techniques will be adjusted according to your personal treatment plan.

The treatment plan should be determined in the first consultation. This will be a longer session as the practitioner needs to identify all your medical details (including pulse taking and looking at the tongue) to make a diagnostic according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
The practitioner should give you an estimation of the sessions needed depending on your condition(s).
Bare in mind that the longer you have had a condition and the longer it may take to restore perfect health.

It is advisable for you to be wearing loose clothing for your Tuina treatments. Depending on your treatment plan, you will either be seated or lying on a couch. In addition, the practitioner may use a cotton cloth when applying Tuina techniques.

Sometimes ointments will be used to enhance the healing process or manage pain.
